Dissociative Humour

I heard recently on a radio show that to ensure you wash your hands well, you should sing ‘Row, row, row your boat…’ to yourself while soaping up. My best friend wondered aloud if I and my internal folk could sing a round (one voice following the other) silently. We can. Now, every time I wash my hands I hear four voices starting one right after the other, in a perfect round.

Thanks, best friend. 🙂

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve been looking for someone else with some level of dissociation disorder! I knew I wasn’t the only one. Diagnosed with PTSD (but concerned about possible DID), I’m working on a blog about the last episode and the experience – on part IV now. Please allow me to trackback to your site and feel free to check mine out as well: laurapenpusher.com.

  2. Laura– Glad you found something that helped! Feel free to link to my blog, and I’ll link to yours as well. Also, you’re welcome to email me privately if you’d like to talk more about DID. Take care.

  3. Yes, but Morticia Addams’ sister, Ophelia, could sing three-part harmony out LOUD.

The show did not, however, state anything relative to her having DID. She was more generically whacked (technical term).

  4. Hi English…I apologize for not responding sooner but only today discovered your comment. I’m still trying to find my way around the tech end of WordPress. I will also get your blog cited on mine as soon as I figure out how to do the trackbacks. I would also appreciate being able to email and talk to you more re DID.

  5. we do that all the time. round songs can be bad when everyone inside are very vocal.
i have subscribed to your blog and added you to my blogroll. i like what you have to say …

  6. Thanks Miquie’s Crew! I think it’s wonderful that we DID’ers can connect over the Internet, and I’m glad you’ve found something that you like on my blog.

About the rounds…it is *definitely* amusing when the internal folk are vocal. 🙂

  7. it can also be scary because everyone can be sooooooooooo vocal – or really out of tune. LOL 🙂 but always gets us smiling.
